The Halal Guys

The iconic New York halal cart goes brick-and-mortar in Plano and Carrollton — and yes, the white sauce lives up to the hype.

If you spent any time in New York City, you know The Halal Guys. That yellow cart on 53rd and 6th with the line around the block at midnight. Well, they're here in DFW now, with spots in Plano and Carrollton, and I'm happy to report the magic traveled.

The Food

The formula is simple and that's why it works: seasoned chicken or gyro meat over yellow rice, topped with white sauce and hot sauce. That's the platter. That's the move. Don't overthink it on your first visit — get the combo platter with both chicken and gyro, ask for extra white sauce (you'll understand why), and go easy on the hot sauce unless you've built up a tolerance.

The portions are enormous. Like, bring-lunch-tomorrow enormous. The chicken is well-seasoned with that signature Halal Guys flavor — slightly smoky, slightly herby, totally addictive. The gyro meat adds a different dimension with its crispy edges and lamb-beef blend.

And the white sauce. I don't know what they put in it and honestly I don't want to know because it might ruin the mystery. It's tangy, it's creamy, it ties everything together, and you will want it on things that have no business having white sauce on them.

The Vibe

It's counter-service, casual, and efficient. You order, you get your food, you eat. The Plano location in particular is a clean, well-run spot. It's perfect for a quick lunch or a late dinner when you don't want to cook.

Who Should Go

Everyone from the college student on a budget to the family looking for an easy halal dinner. The price-to-portion ratio is genuinely hard to beat. If you've never had Halal Guys before, this is your sign.

Why It Matters

The Halal Guys is one of those success stories that started on a New York City street corner and grew into something massive — all while keeping halal at the center. That representation matters, and supporting their DFW locations keeps the momentum going.
