Rumi's Kitchen

Upscale Persian Dining with Halal Heart

★★★★★ 5/5 $$$ 📍 Atlanta, GA

There are restaurants where you eat. And then there are restaurants where you experience. Rumi's Kitchen is firmly in the latter category — a Persian dining destination that has elevated Atlanta's culinary landscape and become one of the city's most celebrated restaurants, period.

Named after the 13th-century Persian poet, Rumi's Kitchen approaches food the way Rumi approached poetry: with beauty, intention, and a deep respect for tradition. The décor is stunning — warm wood, Persian-inspired patterns, soft lighting, and an ambiance that makes every meal feel like an occasion.

For Muslim diners, the key detail: all chicken dishes, all lamb dishes, all seafood, the koobideh, bastirma, and sujuk are halal. This isn't a compromise — it's core to the restaurant's identity, rooted in Persian hospitality traditions that have always honored their guests' needs.

The koobideh kebab is the signature dish, and it's perfection on a skewer. Two long, slender kebabs of seasoned ground meat — typically lamb and beef — grilled over open flame until charred on the outside and juicy within. Served with saffron-infused basmati rice and grilled tomato, it's a plate that defines Persian cuisine for many Americans.

The tahdig — the crispy, golden rice crust that forms at the bottom of the pot — is Rumi's showstopper. Served as a side, this crunchy, saffron-scented rice is the dish that makes Persian food lovers swoon. Getting it right requires skill and patience, and Rumi's nails it every time.

The joojeh kebab (saffron chicken) is tender and aromatic, the lamb shank is slow-braised until it falls from the bone, and the gheimeh stew — split pea and beef in a tangy tomato sauce — is rich and comforting. The mezze selection is excellent, with kashk-e bademjan (eggplant and whey dip) being a standout.

With three Atlanta-area locations — Sandy Springs, Colony Square, and Avalon in Alpharetta — Rumi's has made Persian cuisine accessible across the metro. Each location maintains the same standard of quality, though the Sandy Springs original holds a special place.

For special occasions, client dinners, or any time you want to treat yourself and your loved ones to something exceptional, Rumi's Kitchen delivers an experience that justifies every dollar.

Amara's Verdict

Rumi's Kitchen is where you take people to impress them — Persian cuisine elevated to fine dining with halal options that don't compromise on a single thing.
